2025-26 Season
Veteran core's scoring regression sinks Capitals' playoff hopes.
The Capitals are significantly underperforming their pace from last season, dropping 17 points at the 70-game mark. This decline is largely due to the regression of several core offensive players. Alex Ovechkin's projected 61 points are a substantial drop from his 73 points in 65 games last year (1.12 vs 0.74 pt/gm). Dylan Strome and Aliaksei Protas also saw their scoring rates fall significantly, with Strome's projected 59 points well below his 82 points last season. Despite improved goaltending from Logan Thompson, the team's reduced goal production has been too much to overcome.
